Buckinghamshire Railway Centre

Buckinghamshire Railway Centre: A fun day out for the whole family!

Follow us on Facebook and Twitter!

We are next open for Steam Train Rides on:

We will re-open for the full season on March 30th (Good Friday) with a visit from Thomas the Tank Engine for the four days of the Easter weekend! Pre-bookings now open, see below.

Due to the amount of heavy rain we have had over the past few weeks, our over-flow car parking field is flooded and will not be usable in time for Easter, so we are capping the amount of tickets sold for our Easter  event to ensure everyone can fit in our main carpark. Good Friday and Easter Saturday are now marked as SOLD OUT and tickets can no longer be pre-booked. We will be unable to sell tickets on the day, so please DO NOT come on Good Friday or Easter Saturday unless you have pre-booked your tickets - or if you are able to car share with someone who already has pre-booked tickets. This announcement currently only covers Good Friday and Easter Saturday, but Easter Monday is nearing capacity too. If you can, please book for Easter Sunday, which is currently less busy.

Please note, that although it says SOLD OUT this does not mean the event will be overly busy as we are capping numbers to less than normal to fit all the cars in one carpark. The event will actually be quieter than normal!

Friday 30th March:            Day Out With Thomas - SOLD OUT
Saturday 31st March:         Day Out With Thomas - SOLD OUT

NEWLY EXTENDED: Local Resident Annual Family Pass

Now for residents within 8 miles of us

Only £32 for a whole year!

Do you live within an 8-mile radius of us? (Click here to check!) We are now offering our Local Resident Annual Family Pass to those within 8 miles of us (as the crow flies), for a one-off payment of just £32 per family for a whole year! It is aimed at local people who might benefit from coming to us more often for shorter visits, when paying the full entrance fee every time is unjustified. With our local pass you can come along whenever you like (check our online calendar first to check we are open!), enjoy the museum, have a coffee, let the kids loose on the Thomas Tables, spend some time in our new second-hand book shop - stay for an hour or come for a whole day – as many times as you like!

The Local Resident Annual Family Pass is for two adults and up to four children. It is valid for all of our Steaming Days, and for our quieter ‘Static Days’, and for most of our special events! What’s more – if you bring any extra guests with you, they will get in for half price! The only times it isn’t valid for is our Thomas Days & Christmas, and for the occasional privately organised event. Please check our website for our opening days/hours.

Come and enjoy your local heritage railway centre as often as you like! Click here for an application form and click here to see the 8-mile radius map and a non-exhaustive list of villages included...

Sunday 27th & Bank Holiday Monday 28th May 2018

Children with a Teddy get in for free!

Due to the success of this event last year, we will hold the same event again in 2018 over two days of the late May bank holiday weekend. The event when children with a teddy get in for free, and Teddy gets his own train ticket and train ride!

Extra Displays!

On both days we will have displays to add a little bit of vintage to your day out!

On the Sunday we will be visited by the Veteran-Cycle Club with a bonanza of historic bicycles and tricycles. Come and discover why the Penny Farthing had such a large wheel!

On Bank Holiday Monday we will be joined by a selection of vintage buses for our Annual Bus Rally!

Stunning locomotive 'Cornwall' is on display in our Visitor Centre!

'Cornwall' is on display, pride of place inside our Visitor Centre for all to admire (see main photo above!)

Cornwall is here to take the place of Castle Class 4-6-0 No. 5080 Defiant, due to its return to Tysley for proposed overhaul to mainline standards.  LNWR 2-2-2 tender loco No. 3020 ‘Cornwall’ has come to Quainton on loan from The National Railway Museum. Built in 1847, ‘Cornwall’ is being displayed alongside two LNWR liveried carriages and has taken pride of place in our stunning ‘Rewley Road’ Visitor Centre. Rather appropriately, the building was also built by LNWR in the centre of Oxford, before being relocated to the Quainton site. ‘Cornwall’ will hopefully be with us for approximately two years. We are thrilled to welcome such a stunning locomotive to our collection.

Types of Open Days at Buckinghamshire Railway Centre

Steaming Days:

Our standard Steaming Days in 2018 are every Sunday from April 8th until 29th October... (we are open other days too, see below for more information!) We open from 10.30am - 5pm on Sundays. (Last admissions one hour before closing).
Steaming Days are our normal, working open days - every Sunday from April 8th to October 28th, and Wednesdays during the school holidays (April 4th & 11th, May 30th, then July 11th-September 5th and October 24th for our Halloween Disco!) On our Steaming Days you get unlimited free steam train rides on our 1/3 mile length of track! There are lots of other engines, coaches and carriages on display to see and learn about - some are newly restored and others are awaiting restoration. Take a trip (£1 per person age 3+) on our 1km long, ride-on miniature steam railway pictured below (a delight for the children - but the adults love it too!) and visit our extensive railway museum. We also have a beautiful glass-roofed visitor centre with more to see, including meticulously restored engines and carriages from times past. We also have a shop and cafe, selling hot and cold food, drinks and snacks, a big (free) on-site car park, four lots of toilets around the site, two footbridges (one with disabled access) and plenty of picnic areas... Come and spend the day with us!
You can use Tesco vouchers on any day except Day Out With Thomas and Christmas.

Static Days:

Our Static Days for 2018 are Monday, Tuesdays and Wednesdays from Easter until Halloween... We open from 10.30am - 4.30pm. (Last admissions one hour before closing). During the school holidays, however, Wednesdays become steaming days!
Static Days are our quieter days when the whole site is open, including the Visitor Centre, shop and museum, but the trains aren't running so we don't offer train rides. There are lots of engines, coaches and carriages on display to see and learn about around the site - some are newly restored and others are awaiting restoration. The café only sells self-service drinks (hot and cold) and snacks on these days. Admission prices are much reduced on Static Days. During the school holidays, we hold Steaming Days on Wednesdays, so during these times Static Days are only on Mondays and Tuesdays.

Special Events:

We hold lots of Special Events throughout the year, from our famous Days Out With Thomas and Father Christmas events, to classic car rallies and Steam Galas. Click on the Special Event link above...
