The perfect day out for Dad!
Also, wander around the beautifully restored historic commercial vehicles from the Ridgeway Run, taking you back to days gone by...
Enter your dad into the special prize draw and someone will be chosen to have a special Father's Day footplate ride!
STOP PRESS! 'Cornwall' has arrived!
She has now been manoeuvred into her final display position, pride of place inside our stunning Visitor Centre! We recommend coming to visit her on Sunday 18th June, on Father's Day, when we will also enjoy the rally of historic vehicles who will be visiting us on the Ridgeway Run.
Cornwall is here to take the place of Castle Class 4-6-0 No. 5080 Defiant, due to its return to Tysley for proposed overhaul to mainline standards. LNWR 2-2-2 tender loco No. 3020 ‘Cornwall’ has come to Quainton on loan from The National Railway Museum. Built in 1847, ‘Cornwall’ is being displayed alongside two LNWR liveried carriages and has taken pride of place in our stunning ‘Rewley Road’ Visitor Centre. Rather appropriately, the building was also built by LNWR in the centre of Oxford, before being relocated to the Quainton site. ‘Cornwall’ will hopefully be with us for approximately two years. We are thrilled to welcome such a stunning locomotive to our collection.
It is one of our usual Steaming Days on Sunday 25th June...
Steam train rides with a full-size steam locomotive, miniature train rides, see the model railway, enjoy the museum and visitor centre. Cafe and shop both open.
Thomas the Tank Engine is here sooooooon!
What an amazing Easter weekend we had with Thomas the Tank Engine, Percy, Mavis and The Fat Controller at Easter. If you missed them, don't worry - he'll be back on July 1st-2nd and September 2nd-3rd. Pre-booking is open for both!
Sunday 29th May: Teddy's Train Ride - when the teddies had their own train ride!
What fun we had! Lots of happy children came along with their teddies for unlimited steam train rides all day.
The highlight of the day were the Teddy Trains when the children were able to place their teddies in the train and wave them off on their very own train ride - alone their own!! Other activities included story telling, a Bear Hunt, The Teddy Count, tea cup rides and the miniature railway... Lots of fun had by all. If you missed out, then watch this space - hopefully we'll do it all again next year!
Come and work for us...
We have two job vacancies!
Types of Open Days at Buckinghamshire Railway Centre
Our standard Steaming Days are every Sunday from April 2nd until 29th October... (we are open other days too, see below for more information!) We open from 10.30am - 5pm on Sundays. (Last admissions one hour before closing).
Steaming Days are our normal, working open days - every Sunday from April 2nd to October 29th, and Wednesdays during the school holidays (April 5th & 12th, May 31st, then July 12th-August 30th, and October 25th). On our Steaming Days you get unlimited free steam train rides on our 1/3 mile length of track! There are lots of other engines, coaches and carriages on display to see and learn about - some are newly restored and others are awaiting restoration. Take a trip (£1 per person age 3+) on our 1km long, ride-on miniature steam railway pictured below (a delight for the children - but the adults love it too!) and visit our extensive museum. We also have a beautiful glass-roofed visitor centre with more to see, including meticulously restored engines and carriages from times past. We also have a shop and cafe, selling hot and cold food, drinks and snacks, a big (free) on-site car park, four lots of toilets around the site, two footbridges (one with disabled access) and plenty of picnic areas... Come and spend the day with us!
Our Static Days are Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays from April until October... We open from 10.30am - 4.30pm. (Last admissions one hour before closing).
Static Days are our quieter days when the whole site is open, including the visitor centre and museum, but the trains aren't running so we don't offer train rides. There are lots of engines, coaches and carriages on display to see and learn about around the site - some are newly restored and others are awaiting restoration. The café only sells self-service drinks (hot and cold) and snacks on these days and the shop isn't open. Admission prices are much reduced on Static Days. During the school holidays, we hold Steaming Days on Wednesdays, so during these times Static Days are only on Tuesdays and Thursdays.
We hold lots of Special Events throughout the year, from our famous Days Out With Thomas and Father Christmas events, to classic car rallies and Steam Galas. Click on the Special Event link above...
