Buckinghamshire Railway Centre: A fun day out for the whole family!
We are next open for Steam Train Rides on:
We have Steaming Days offering steam train rides every Sunday throughout the season (plus other days too - please check the calendar!) We open 10.30 am-5pm (4.30pm on week days). For Special Events, click the tab on the bar above for more information.
Come during Half Term!
We are open for Steam Train Rides this half term on:
Sunday 22nd October - 10.30am-5pm
Wednesday 25th October - 10.30am-4.30pm
and Sunday 29th October - 10.30am-5pm
Come and visit during half term for rides on a full size steam engine, and take a trip on our fun miniature railway. Visit the museum, the travelling post office, wander the site and admire the engines and other railway paraphernalia - some already beautifully restored, others awaiting restoration! Lots to see and do inside our large Visitor Centre. The shop and café will be open on the dates above, when snacks, hot and cold drinks and meals will be available, or feel free to bring a picnic - we have lots of picnic tables! Large on site car park. Well behaved dogs allowed on leads.
Half Term Static Days: We are also open on Tuesday 24th and Thursday 26th October for Static Days. This is when we are open, but train rides aren't running, so it is much quieter and prices are much reduced (£6 per adult, £4 per child or £17 per family ticket 2 adults + 4 children. Under 5s are free).
Sunday 15th October: Diesel Day - Cancelled...
We are sorry to announce that our Diesel Day has been cancelled due to lack of available locos. We will be open as a usual Steaming Day instead with a steam loco offering rides instead.
Christmas is coming! Book now!
We are excited to announce that the Big Man in Red will be coming to us on nine days in December - sometimes he'll be travelling in a train with Thomas the Tank Engine, and other times he'll be travelling in a train pulled by one of our own steam locomotives instead. Pre-booking for Christmas is essential as we sell out quickly (some First Class compartments are sold out already!)
Festive Day Out With Thomas: Come and see Father Christmas on a train pulled by Thomas! All children get a present. Meet the Fat Controller, enjoy Thomas-themed colouring and badge-making, live children's show and free refreshments: Click here for more information and to book Festive Day Out With Thomas!
Meet Father Christmas on a Steam Train! Our 'Santa Special' days are NOT with Thomas the Tank Engine, but, being the Wednesday, Friday and Saturday before Christmas, they are set to offer a really festive experience! Father Christmas travels on one of our own stunning steam locomotives instead of Thomas, which is often preferred by families with older children who may consider themselves (deep intake of breath) too old for Thomas! (Although we, of course, think you are never too old for Thomas!) Click here to book Santa Specials!
At all of our Christmas events, the fabulous Cha Char Chimps will be offering on-board fun whilst you wait for Father Christmas on the train!
Please note: We are not able to accept Tesco Vouchers for Thomas Days or Christmas.
Stunning locomotive 'Cornwall' is on display in our Visitor Centre!
'Cornwall' is on display, pride of place inside our Visitor Centre for all to admire.
Cornwall is here to take the place of Castle Class 4-6-0 No. 5080 Defiant, due to its return to Tysley for proposed overhaul to mainline standards. LNWR 2-2-2 tender loco No. 3020 ‘Cornwall’ has come to Quainton on loan from The National Railway Museum. Built in 1847, ‘Cornwall’ is being displayed alongside two LNWR liveried carriages and has taken pride of place in our stunning ‘Rewley Road’ Visitor Centre. Rather appropriately, the building was also built by LNWR in the centre of Oxford, before being relocated to the Quainton site. ‘Cornwall’ will hopefully be with us for approximately two years. We are thrilled to welcome such a stunning locomotive to our collection.
Types of Open Days at Buckinghamshire Railway Centre
Our standard Steaming Days are every Sunday from April 2nd until 29th October... (we are open other days too, see below for more information!) We open from 10.30am - 5pm on Sundays. (Last admissions one hour before closing).
Steaming Days are our normal, working open days - every Sunday from April 2nd to October 29th, and Wednesdays during the school holidays (April 5th & 12th, May 31st, then July 12th-August 30th, and October 25th). On our Steaming Days you get unlimited free steam train rides on our 1/3 mile length of track! There are lots of other engines, coaches and carriages on display to see and learn about - some are newly restored and others are awaiting restoration. Take a trip (£1 per person age 3+) on our 1km long, ride-on miniature steam railway pictured below (a delight for the children - but the adults love it too!) and visit our extensive railway museum. We also have a beautiful glass-roofed visitor centre with more to see, including meticulously restored engines and carriages from times past. We also have a shop and cafe, selling hot and cold food, drinks and snacks, a big (free) on-site car park, four lots of toilets around the site, two footbridges (one with disabled access) and plenty of picnic areas... Come and spend the day with us!
You can use Tesco vouchers on any day except Day Out With Thomas and Christmas.
Our Static Days are Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays from April until October... We open from 10.30am - 4.30pm. (Last admissions one hour before closing). During the school holidays, however, Wednesdays become steaming days!
Static Days are our quieter days when the whole site is open, including the visitor centre and museum, but the trains aren't running so we don't offer train rides. There are lots of engines, coaches and carriages on display to see and learn about around the site - some are newly restored and others are awaiting restoration. The café only sells self-service drinks (hot and cold) and snacks on these days and the shop isn't open. Admission prices are much reduced on Static Days. During the school holidays, we hold Steaming Days on Wednesdays, so during these times Static Days are only on Tuesdays and Thursdays.
We hold lots of Special Events throughout the year, from our famous Days Out With Thomas and Father Christmas events, to classic car rallies and Steam Galas. Click on the Special Event link above...
