Access Statement

There is full wheelchair access across our site.

Our large car park is right on site next to our Visitor Centre and entrance gate and we have several disabled parking spaces right by the entrance.

The Visitor Centre has full access with only a ramp (no steps) onto the concourse as shown in the photo.

We have two bridges going over the train track and across to the other side of our site. One of these is an old Victorian bridge with steps. The other is a more modern bridge that has a ramp one side and a lift the other.

As we use heritage carriages for our train rides, there are steps up into the carriage and the doors are not wide enough for a standard wheelchair. Therefore, wheelchair users (and the rest of their party) can go into the brake van at the back of the train - we have a ramp for this purpose. If the visitor is capable of taking a few steps onto the train, then wheelchairs can be left on the platform and the visitor can be shown to a seat closest to the door.

Our site is large - 25 acres - and we want everyone to be able to wander the site as much as they want to. If you do not generally need/have a wheelchair but feel you might like one to go around our site, then you are welcome to use our wheelchair - there is no charge, however, we recommend that you call us before your visit to pre-book it, as we cannot guarantee it will be available otherwise.

We have disabled toilets dotted around the site. They are located in the Visitor Centre, the Railway Museum, by the miniature railway and in the old Victorian Station builsing on Platform 1.

A registered carer can come in for free with a disabled visitor. We also accept Max cards when a child comes in for free with a paying adult. However, these offers do not apply at Christmas.

At Christmas, the brake van (mentioned above as being used for wheel chair users on the trian ride) is used for Father Christmas to put all his presents, therefore, unfortunately, wheelchairs cannot go on the train at Christmas. Please call for more information: 01296 655720

Please call 01296 655720 9.30am-4.30pm Monday to Friday for any queries.
