Our Railway Cafe is open Monday to Friday, all year round, with no entry ticket required. Current opening hours are 9.30am-1.30pm but we are looking to extend these hours, so keep an eye out for updates. Our Railway Cafe sells Full English Breakfasts, baps/sandwiches made to order, burgers, chips and freshly baked cake/brownies, plus snacks and hot/cold drinks and ice creams. On our Cafe-Only days, the bridges are closed so there isn't access to The Railway Museum etc, but cafe users are welcome to wander around the Visitor Centre and the close vicinity outside - including our brand new play area. NB There are some days that the cafe is not able to open, see below...
We especially welcome cyclists on our Cafe-Only days! Our Visitor Centre is large and cyclists are able to bring their bikes inside to keep them safe! Or, we have plenty of outdoor seating for those who prefer to stay outside. Any queries, please call us on 01296 655720.
Also, groups of parents/carers with buggies - we can fit you in here easily as we have so much space! We have three train tables out for the children to enjoy, giving you peace to enjoy your coffee! We also have a lady organising a Messy Play session sometimes on Tuesdays. We also have a fabulous new pay area outside!
Steaming Days and Special Events
On Steaming Days and Special Events (Green or Orange on the calendar), our café is open all day (10.30am-5pm) and sells hot (until 3pm) and cold food including sandwiches, jacket potatoes, bacon/sausage baguettes, chips, sausage rolls etc and then a Dish of the Day which could be, for example: lasagne, BBQ chicken or fajitas! On these days, the café also sells cake and biscuits, crisps, chocolate bars, hot and cold drinks and ice creams/lollies. Cyclists are welcome to visit the cafe on these days too.
Please note, on Bank Holidays when a Special Event is running, or a very rare mid-week Thomas Day, the Railway Cafe will only be open for people with tickets. There is also a very rare occasion when we have a mid-week wedding/private function when the cafe will be closed. These dates for 2023 so far are below:
Mid-week dates when the Railway Cafe will be closed to anyone without tickets:
Good Friday (Thomas Day)
