We recently announced that our steam loco Wightwick Hall BR (WR) 4-6-0 5MT no.6989 will play the role of the iconic locomotive for the Hogwarts Express in the highly anticipated Harry Potter television series!
Wightwick Hall has completed her first filming session and returned home to Quainton Road (aka Buckinghamshire Railway Centre) for a short time in October. Visitors to the railway centre on two special Steaming Days – Sunday 5th and Sunday 19th October – were treated to passenger rides in carriages pulled by the star herself in her shiny new red livery.
We had two busy days with lots of Harry Potter fans – many of whom were dressed for the occasion!
Wightwick Hall has now returned to her base at The Bluebell Railway and will return to the film set in 2026.
She remains on long-term loan to the Bluebell Railway in West Sussex, where she will usually be based in between filming over the next eight years.
Visitors to Buckinghamshire Railway Centre in Quainton will be able to see other locomotives and carriages going through similar restoration processes in their bid to keep the age of steam alive for future generations. We have a 40-acre site amidst the Buckinghamshire countryside, based around a disused railway station, Quainton Road, that was formerly on the Metropolitan railway line. The site has a large railway museum, working steam engines offering passenger rides and many railway exhibits and memorabilia of the bygone days of steam. Taking pride of place at the site is the stunning glass-roofed visitor centre. This beautiful building is the disused Oxford city centre railway station building, which was dismantled and re-built at Quainton Road in 2002.
