Time on your hands? Have a skill you can pass on? Want to help out?
You can make a positive contribution to Britain’s industrial heritage!
Buckinghamshire Railway Centre in Quainton always welcomes new faces to join its Volunteering Army and there is something for just about everyone, with roles aplenty.
Want to drive or restore a steam locomotive? Paint a building? Lay some track? Do some gardening? Help in the shop or cafe? You will be made very welcome!
The range of available roles is wide, and generally come under two headings: ‘Behind the Scenes’ roles and ‘Customer-facing’ roles. From steam engine crew, carriage maintenance and machine shop work to making sandwiches, selling tickets and giving guided tours to schools – the list goes on and on! Full training is provided where needed.
Maintaining and operating this leading Railway Centre is a seven-days-a-week operation – many “early-retireds” work here during the week – and it often involves more than one member of their family too!
You need to be over 16 and a member of Quainton Railway Society (£35 per year, concessions available), which entitles you to take part in all activities and benefits include regular e-newsletters and full training as required.
We also have a youth volunteering section, Q-Branch, for those aged 14-18. Please email: [email protected] for more information.
