RAILWAY CAFE:
Our Railway Café, located inside our stunning Visitor Centre, is open Mon-Fri 9.30am-2pm, all year round with no ticket required. (Access around the site is limited on these days and there are no train rides.) The cafe is also open on Museum Days, Steaming Days and Special Events.
STEAMING DAYS:
On Steaming Days, you can come for steam train rides, ride the miniature railway, watch the model trains, visit the Railway Museum and Visitor Centre with shop and café, plus lots more. Steaming Days are some Sundays plus some Wednesdays during school holidays.
MUSEUM DAYS:
Spend a day exploring 25 acres of fascinating exhibits, interactive displays, and historic locomotives. Browse our gift shop and second-hand bookshop, enjoy a coffee or lunch in the cafe, and soak up the atmosphere of a bygone era. A quieter day where you can explore at your leisure.
SPECIAL EVENTS:
We hold lots of different special events during the year, ranging from visits by Thomas & Friends, The Gruffalo and a herd of dinosaurs, to several heritage vehicle rallies and Emergency Services Day. Take a look at our What’s On section for more information on what’s coming up. There’s something for everyone!
OPENING TIMES:
Steaming Days, Museum Days & Special Events opening times: 10.30am – 5pm. Last admissions 3pm.
*** Please be aware that due to the nature of steam railways where steam trains are operating there is always a risk of falling ash coming from the locomotive’s chimney, which can be hot.
*** When working with ancient heritage machinery, there is always a relatively high risk that problems can occur and we may not be able to run the loco advertised.
