FAQs

Some of our most asked questions:

We have a large, hardstanding car park and disabled spaces. On special event days there is also an overflow car parking field. All parking is free of charge

Well behaved dogs on leads are welcome everywhere on site and in the train.

Restrictions do apply in the cafeteria serving area.

Unfortunately our Panto Express event is not able to accommodate dogs.

Our site is fully accessible for wheelchair and pushchair users. There are disabled toilets within the museum, miniature railway and Rewley Road visitor centre.

Train rides are available when we are running our MK1 carriages from Platform 4 withing the brake van. Other carriages are inaccessible for wheelchairs so please do contact us before visiting to check what will be running. *At Christmas and Halloween the brake van is not accessible. Please call 01296 655720 for more information.

Depending on your level of interest and the type of event being held, you can expect to cover all of the main areas in 2-2 ½ hours, but there is plenty to interest you if you have more time available. On a special event day you can easily spend all day here.

Our main Visitor Centre and Museum are undercover, as well as the train ride on our full size steam locomotive. We do have a large site so if the forecast is wet we recommend a waterproof coat or umbrella, and the children may like to wear their wellies as we can have a few nice-sized puddles for jumping in!

We have three types of open days:

Steaming Days: This is when we have a full-size steam train running offering rides. The miniature railway is also open, with ride-on-trains offering rides for a small fee of £1.50 each (under 3’s free). The whole site is open, including the Railway Museum, Visitor Centre, Gift Shop and Railway Cafe. Steaming days are generally on Sundays from April until October, with some Wednesdays in school holidays.

Special Events: These days offer everything that a steaming day does, but with added attractions, such as some of your favourite characters or a variety of vintage vehicles. Please check our calendar for the special events happening this year!

Cafe only days: Our Railway Cafe is open Monday to Friday from 9.30am to 2pm for you to enjoy. Cafe users can wander around the Visitor Centre and the area outside, which includes the play park, but the rest of the site is not open.
