Our Café

WEEKDAY CAFE!

Our Railway Café is located inside our stunning Visitor Centre and is open Monday to Friday 9.30am-2pm (when the rest of the site is closed). We provide well-priced Full English Breakfasts, baps/sandwiches/panini made to order, plus snacks, hot and cold drinks and ice creams.

On these weekday Café-only days, there are no train rides and the footbridges are closed so there is no access to The Railway Museum etc, but café users are welcome to wander around our fabulous glass-roofed Visitor Centre and the close vicinity outside – including our children’s play area. We also have train tables for the children to enjoy.

We also welcome groups of cyclists and walkers on our Café-only days!

Our Visitor Centre is large and cyclists are able to bring their bikes inside to keep them safe! Or, we have plenty of outdoor seating for those who prefer to stay outside. We also welcome walkers with muddy boots and dogs!

Also, groups of parents/carers with children and buggies – we can fit you all in here easily as we have lots of space! We have indoor train tables and an outdoor play area for the children to enjoy, giving you peace to enjoy your coffee! It makes for a great meeting place!

Our Café on Museum Days, Steaming Days and Special Events

On Steaming Days, Museum Days and Special Events (green, dark blue or orange on the online calendar), our Railway Café is open all day (10.30am-5pm).

Breakfast is served until 11.45am.
Hot lunch is served 12-2pm (12-3pm on busy event days).

On these days, the cafe sells a variety of options including hot breakfasts (until 11.45am) like bacon/sausage/egg baps; plus made-to-order sandwiches, jacket potatoes, chips, sausage rolls, as well as cake, biscuits, crisps, chocolate bars, hot and cold drinks and ice creams/lollies. Cyclists are welcome to visit the café on these days too.

Please note, on Bank Holidays when a Special Event is running, or a very rare weekday when we’re open for an event, the Railway Café will only be open for people with tickets. There is also a very rare occasion when we have a mid-week wedding/wake/private function when the café will be closed. Please check our calendar for up to date information.
